Shure Launches SE110 - Shure’s ‘Affordable’ Headphones

Shure – one of the worlds leading developers of high quality audio headphones – has released the SE110 Sound Isolating Headphones. Shure’s headphones have a very high barrier to entry due to their extremely high prices; however the SE110’s will lower this mark being the cheapest Shure phones to date.

The main reason for this drop in price is the fact that the SE110’s only have 1 micro driver, compared to 2 or 3 in the other Shure earphones. However, you will still get Shure’s MicroSpeaker technology as well as a variety of sleeves, a modular cable, a cleaning tool, and a carrying case.

Shure’s Sound Isolating Sleeves block out ambient noise as well as ensure a comfortable fit for everyone. Each kit comes with three sizes (S, M, L) for both the flex and foam sleeves. The tight fit is important for creating a seal that is used to optimize sound isolation and bass response, as well as increased comfort for long periods of use.

The Modular Cable is a detachable cable solution that allows you to customize based on personal preference. A 3 foot cable is included that allows you to alter your cable length depending on your current activity.

The SE110’s are priced around $100 ($119.99 on Shure’s website). For those of you who seek high quality sound, the Shure SE110’s are a great buy.

Gather up all those AVI’s - DivX coming to PS3

Great news has come for those who own a PlayStation 3. DivX Technology – one of the most popular video formats on the earth – is officially coming to the PS3.

We PS3 users previously had to convert all of our AVI files into PS3 compatible video formats such as MPEG 3’s (which is a very time consuming process). When the update is released containing the new DivX support, we will no longer have to do this. Since AVI files compose the majority of video files downloaded on the web, we will now be able to simply transfer the files from our PC to our PS3. This update will also allow game developers to use the DivX format on their games.

The Xbox 360 has yet to release a patch that allows DivX support, although I am sure they will follow suit shortly. Until then, we can laugh as we watch our latest downloaded bootlegs on our PS3s, while those 360 owners spend hour’s transcoding theirs to the required format.

Playstation 3 gets rumble - DualShock 3 released with compatible games list

For those PS3 owners out there like myself, I have some good news for you. Rumble has been brought back! The DualShock 3 was released in Japan this week.

The controller is said to be heavier than the SIXAXIS, making it feel a lot sturdier and of better quality. It contains all of the same features as its counterpart, while adding in the rumble feature we have all missed.

Rumble has not yet been incorporated into all of the games; however patches are being constantly released to add it on. Firmware update 2.0 enabled the vibration functionality of the DualShock 3 to be recognized by the system. A full list of compatible games can be found at the end of this post.

The DualShock 3 is available in both black and ceramic white in Japan. The controller is not going to be released until spring 2008 for North America, and the white controller will most likely not be available.

If you guys don’t want to wait to purchase one, or you want your own ceramic white controller, check out yesasia dot com to order one. This seems to be the cheapest option, and they have free shipping to North America. If you enter the coupon code SA5OFF upon your purchase, you get $5 off. I have just ordered my own ceramic white DualShock 3 from here and am now anxiously awaiting for it to arrive.

Use a Playstation 3 SIXAXIS on your PC

I have spent the past few days trying to figure out how to get my Playstation 3 SIXAXIS controller to work on my computer. Finally I was able to figure it out, and it’s rather simple to do actually.

Firstly, you must be running Windows XP (I’m running XP Pro). I am not sure if you will have the same results on other versions of Windows, but you can give it a shot if you like. The first thing you need to do is download the rar file found here, which contains two exe files. If you don’t have winRAR make sure you grab it first. Once you have downloaded the rar file, follow these steps.

1. Unrar the file containing the 2 exe’s
2. Run ‘libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe’
3. Plug the SIXAXIS into your PC
4. Run ‘ps3sixaxis_en.exe’ Note: this program should automatically close after a few seconds of running it. Hold the PS button for 5 seconds after the program closes.
5. Go to control panel, and then click on game controllers. You should see ‘Playstation 3 Controller.’ Double click on it, and you should see 19 red icons representing the buttons of the controller.
6. Press the PS Button once, and button 17 should light up. Once it does, your controller is now working.

Note: Controller number LED’s may continue to blink, but not to worry, the controller will still work properly.

There you have it folks, you can now use your lovely Playstation 3 SIXAXIS on your computer.

Increase your wireless signal strength for free - With paper and tin foil

How many of you have a wireless router at home, but the signal to your computer or video game console upstairs is very weak. You could buy a range extender for about $60, or you could create your own for free with some paper and tin foil. The decision is up to you.

I stumbled across a website called Freeantennas dot com, which is a site containing a few ways to increase the range of your router with a home made antenna. The most popular design is the Ez-12 Parabolic Reflector. This will give you a 12dBi gain with one antenna, and a further increase can be expected if you use two. Compare this to a D-Link antenna that sells for about $54 and gives you a 7dBi gain. I think this makes it obvious that you are better off creating your own Ez-12 antenna.

To make this antenna, all you have to do is download and print the template that can be found here. You can resize the image in paint if you want to get a further signal boost. Print the document on card stock or acetate if you can. Then you simply open the six slots with scissors or an X-acto knife, glue tin foil to the back side of the reflector surface, and place the six tabs in the six slots. Once you are finished, you slip the antenna on your wireless router antenna and you’re ready to go.

For a full list of antennas check out Freeantennas dot com.

For even more ways to increase your wireless signal for free, check out one of my new posts here.

TrustSource - Find out what products really work

The folks at TrustSource dot org have asked me to do a review of their site. TrustSource is basically a site that lists various products or services, and allows users to review and rate them based on their experiences.

When you first come to the site, you will notice that the layout is very basic. The main page content consists of some stop smoking products, with their corresponding user ranks and reviews. On the left side of the page is the navigation menu, as well as instructions as to how to write an online product review.

The main focus of this website seems to be stop smoking aids, however there are a variety of other products that you can view and read reviews of. Some other featured products on TrustSource are hair loss products - such as provillus - and their corresponding ranks and reviews, and even cash advances and payday loans.

If you are in need of extra cash because your paycheques just aren’t cutting it, TrustSource provides you with the fastest and most secure online cash advances on the net. Flexible payment options are offered, making it that easy to get the cash you need.

Want to know what products really work? TrustSource is your resource.

Google at your gas pump

Have you ever been a lost driver unable to get directions? Do you dislike stopping and asking for directions? Well no need to worry, soon you will be able to access Google Maps at the gas pump.

It was announced last week that the online search leader will dispense driving directions at thousands of gas pumps across the United States, starting next month.

These pumps are made by a company called Gilbarco Veeder-Root, and include an Internet connection with a screen displaying Google’s mapping service. Drivers will have the option to find local landmarks, hotels, restaurants, and hospitals selected by the gas station owner. Once the driver has selected his destination, he can then print the directions right out of the pump. Eventually motorists will be able to type in a specific address and get the corresponding directions.

To read more about the topic check out the article.
