I recently had an idea for a desktop wallpaper design and have finally finished it. Please note that I have nothing against Microsoft or the Xbox 360, I am simply poking fun. Both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 are great consoles and have their own fun and unique games. With this said, here is my completed wallpaper. Comments are always welcome.

Great news has come for those who own a PlayStation 3. DivX Technology – one of the most popular video formats on the earth – is officially coming to the PS3.

We PS3 users previously had to convert all of our AVI files into PS3 compatible video formats such as MPEG 3’s (which is a very time consuming process). When the update is released containing the new DivX support, we will no longer have to do this. Since AVI files compose the majority of video files downloaded on the web, we will now be able to simply transfer the files from our PC to our PS3. This update will also allow game developers to use the DivX format on their games.

The Xbox 360 has yet to release a patch that allows DivX support, although I am sure they will follow suit shortly. Until then, we can laugh as we watch our latest downloaded bootlegs on our PS3s, while those 360 owners spend hour’s transcoding theirs to the required format.

For you fellow PC gamers, there is now a new way to increase your gaming experience, and no it is not a new video card.

It may be time to get rid of your current desk chair and upgrade to the Pyramat Wireless PC Gaming chair. This product is brought to you by Sharperimage dot com, a company that is well known for its gaming chairs and loungers.

The Pyramat is not your ordinary office chair. It comes with two built in full range speakers and a 4 inch subwoofer. The speakers also come equipped with cool illuminating blue LEDs. The chair also features a full range channel digital selector and an LCD display. This chair not only pumps out high quality surround sound, but it is also very comfortable. It has a built in headrest, and gas piston height and titling seat adjustments. The Pyramat runs on a built in rechargeable battery that is designed to last for 4-5 hours of use. To sum everything up, the chair connects wirelessly to your computer via an 8 channel 2.4ghz digital transmitter.

The Pyramat is not one of the cheapest chairs on the market, coming in at just under $300. However, if you don’t mind plugging in your chair every night before bed, this may be the product for you.

For those PS3 owners out there like myself, I have some good news for you. Rumble has been brought back! The DualShock 3 was released in Japan this week.

The controller is said to be heavier than the SIXAXIS, making it feel a lot sturdier and of better quality. It contains all of the same features as its counterpart, while adding in the rumble feature we have all missed.

Rumble has not yet been incorporated into all of the games; however patches are being constantly released to add it on. Firmware update 2.0 enabled the vibration functionality of the DualShock 3 to be recognized by the system. A full list of compatible games can be found at the end of this post.

The DualShock 3 is available in both black and ceramic white in Japan. The controller is not going to be released until spring 2008 for North America, and the white controller will most likely not be available.

If you guys don’t want to wait to purchase one, or you want your own ceramic white controller, check out yesasia dot com to order one. This seems to be the cheapest option, and they have free shipping to North America. If you enter the coupon code SA5OFF upon your purchase, you get $5 off. I have just ordered my own ceramic white DualShock 3 from here and am now anxiously awaiting for it to arrive.

I have spent the past few days trying to figure out how to get my Playstation 3 SIXAXIS controller to work on my computer. Finally I was able to figure it out, and it’s rather simple to do actually.

Firstly, you must be running Windows XP (I’m running XP Pro). I am not sure if you will have the same results on other versions of Windows, but you can give it a shot if you like. The first thing you need to do is download the rar file found here, which contains two exe files. If you don’t have winRAR make sure you grab it first. Once you have downloaded the rar file, follow these steps.

1. Unrar the file containing the 2 exe’s
2. Run ‘libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe’
3. Plug the SIXAXIS into your PC
4. Run ‘ps3sixaxis_en.exe’ Note: this program should automatically close after a few seconds of running it.
5. Go to control panel, and then click on game controllers. You should see ‘Playstation 3 Controller.’ Double click on it, and you should see 19 red icons representing the buttons of the controller.
6. Press the PS Button once, and button 17 should light up. Once it does, your controller is now working.

Note: Controller number LED’s may continue to blink, but not to worry, the controller will still work properly.

There you have it folks, you can now use your lovely Playstation 3 SIXAXIS on your computer.

For those PC gamers who do not play First Person Shooters on video game consoles because of the absence of the mouse, think again. It’s time for you to kiss those dual analog sticks goodbye; Splitfish Gameware has just released the FragFX, another unique controller for the Playstation 3. This controller breaks the SIXAXIS into two parts, replacing the right analog stick with an optical mouse, and moving the left stick to a Wii Nunchuck-like dongle.

Both parts of the controller are connected to an easily detachable lap board/mouse pad to allow for easier couch play. The button layout on the controller is very well designed, the two main buttons on the mouse have taken over R1 and R2, while the four main Playstation buttons are located on the side of the mouse, at thumbs reach. The left dongle contains the left analog stick and the D-pad. L1 and L2 shoulder buttons are located - you guessed it, on the shoulder - as well as the unique frag button (which is a button that when pressed, decreases your mouse speed in order to be more accurate with certain weapons, such as a sniper). There is also a scroll wheel on the side of the dongle that can be used to adjust mouse sensitivity on-the-fly. Just like the SIXAXIS, all buttons are analog, and the left dongle contains motion sensing abilities.

The FragFX has multiple modes that increase its functionality. It can operate as only a mouse in the Playstation Menu and in the browser. Swap Mode gives you the ability to control the left analog stick with the mouse (hence the name swap). The third mode is pMo mode, in which physical movements of the dongle can be set to replicate in game actions that would normally correspond to a button press. For example, you could set it so that when you waggle the dongle the gun-smash action is triggered in Resistance, normally being accessed by pressing triangle.

The FragFX is available in both a wired and wireless model, pricing in at 59.99 and 69.99 respectively.

For those of you FPS mouse-palming gamers who want to have the same experience on their Playstation 3, check out the FragFX.

This year, EA Sports has created a game that looks so much like a real NHL game your going to think your watching the real thing. The main reason for this is the new skating engine and dynamic AI system.

In NHL 08, your players skates are controlled with the left joystick. If you want to go forward you move it forward, if you want turbo you move it all the way up, and to stop you move it down. If you leave the stick in its normal position your player will simply glide down the ice.

On the fly AI is something completely new to NHL 08, and will make the game a lot more challenging compared to the previous versions. If you stick to just one strategy on offense (such as trying to pop in one timers), the defense will recognize this and shut you down. You will need to be a lot smarter on offense this year. Vice versa, if you are one of those players who, on defense, likes to charge the offensive player with the puck and rock him with a big hit, you will get destroyed. You’re going to have to play more like defensemen in the NHL, by playing the passing lanes and using the poke check for instance.

Along with these two new game improvements comes the Dynasty mode, Create a player/team mode, Create a Play mode, and awesome Online play to name a few. I’m not going to go into detail about these areas because that would take a while; if you want a full fledged review of the game check out IGN.

In closing, I am going to provide you guys with a couple pointers that you can use when you get your copy of NHL 08. Firstly, when you are in create a play mode, try creating a play that moves all of your players to one side of the offensive zone. This will shift the defense’s attention to that side of the ice. Next, move the puck to the point (where your defense has possession) and skate towards the boards. At this time you sneak a forward behind the net, about five feet from the far post. To use this in a game, get your players in their positions and hit the created play button to trigger the play. Use a slap pass to send the puck to the net, and your forward will automatically deflect it and score.

Another tip for you fellow NHLers is to consider a players size and weight when choosing the stick flex setting in create a player mode. This is often something that not much thought is given to. Bigger, stronger players can shoot harder with a stiffer flex, whereas smaller players lack the strength to use a stiffer flex stick. Be sure to choose the right flex when creating your player.

EA has done a great job this year with its NHL franchise. If you do not own a copy already, you should seriously consider buying one. Until then, ill be playing online on my PS3 (PSN ID: Jackal09), see you on the ice.
