This week at the Leipzig Games Convention, Sony unveiled a wireless keypad peripheral for the PlayStation 3 controller (both SIXAXIS and DualShock 3). The keypad apparently sits on top of the controller and connects via mini-USB. There was also a ‘touchpad mode’ mentioned that will be used for mouse input, as well as phones and other Bluetooth accessories. A price has yet to be released; however the device will be launched in November in 8 different languages.
Rumour has it that Sony has been working on a Wii-like remote for the PlayStation 3. Apparently a group of PS3 owners were taken to California where they got to test out this new Sony product, a PS3 remote that mimics the functions of the Wiimote. The PS3 owners used the device to play games such a tennis, paintball, and fencing. They were also shown how it could potentially be used in shooters, with a demo of the remote being used to play Quake on a laptop. There are many changes that need to be made before Sony can even consider releasing this product, starting with the fact that the device is mounted on a large tripod. If this product does reach the market, the gaming community could end up being a great source for professional athletes – or so we’d like to think.
PS3 owners (and future owners) continue to drool over their MGS4 screenshots and movies, anxiously awaiting the launch of the soon to be epic game. Interesting news has been released that is bound to heighten your drooling sessions.
Konami’s Brandon Laurino has posted on the Official PlayStation Blog, stating that this unique and very limited PS3 will be launched in North America as part of a Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle. The Gunmetal Gray MGS4 bundle can be expected to arrive on the games June 12th release date. Price of the bundle has not yet been released.
We all know that video game characters live in a 3D world, but gamers only get to experience it in a 2D world (on a screen). TN Games has changed this with its new FPS Gaming Vest.
The Gaming Vest takes your gaming beyond sight and sound, by providing the user with air pressure precisely where the impact happens, as it happens. This means everything from punches to bullets can be felt though the air pressure exerted by the vest.
The vest is available in both black and camo, and retails for a mere $169.00. If you’re a FPS addict like me, you would definitely enjoy this product.
The Call of Duty 4 1.5 patch has just been released for the Xbox 360. The Playstion 3 version is still being completed and should launch in the next few days.
For starters, the Kill Cam has been completely revamped. You can now follow the path of a grenade as its been thrown at you, or view Airstrikes by following the bomb’s flight until it hits you. Additional features of the patch can be read below.
Host Migration:
Now you won’t have to be dropped back by yourself when a host leaves. Instead, everyone will stay together, a new host will be assigned, and the game will auto-start back up. Keeping everyone together, no more re-inviting, re-joining games because some host leaves. This has been a tall order and something that we’ve put a lot of work into which has allowed us to really optimize online play all around not just specifically with Host migration.
Improved Sniper / ACOG Accuracy:
Sniper and ACOG scopes have been tweaked and are really improved. I use to not snipe at all (mainly because I’m a horrible sniper), but now it’s so much more fluid and natural, while still having the same difficulty to use, it has no more “WTF I know I hit that guy!” moments.
Upgraded Spectator Cam:
Now when you’re in spectator mode you can follow them in 3rd person, switch to their first person view, or rotate the camera in a full 360 degrees around whoever you’re watching.
Quick Mute Option
Users will now be able to quick mute players on the fly by pulling up the scoreboard in-game or via the lobby by simply going to their name and hitting the mute assigned button. As quickly as calling in and designating an airstike. So no longer getting killed while trying to make your way through the Xbox blades for the mute option so you can shut up the guy who always seems to find it funny to sing into his mic or cover up for his lack of skill by telling you how to play Domination his way.
We all know that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has an astoundingly high failure rate, 16% to be precise (compared to less than 3% for both the PS3 and Wii). One of the hand picked machines used on demo at the 2008 Game Developers Conference was graced with the infamous Red Ring of Death. Check out the video below to see for yourself. Embarassing, I must say.
Last fall Sony announced its PlayTV add on for the PlayStation 3. It has finally been displayed for us all to see, and European users now have a reason to be excited (us North American’s will have to wait anxiously for it to be released).
PlayTV basically allows you to view a TV guide, pause and rewind TV, as well as record one channel while watching another, all with your PlayStation 3. You can also watch TV or recorded shows on your PlayStation portable via Remote Play, anywhere in the world, on a wi-fi connection. The only downside to PlayTV is that there is currently no way to record TV while playing a game. However, developers are currently working on this issue. No release date has been stated as of yet.
Are you a huge Star Wars Fan? Do you own a Nintendo Wii? If so, you will be very interested in this new gadget for Nintendo’s latest game console. If not, your going to be missing out on some serious Jedi action.
Camy International has introduced the Wii Light Sword, which resembles a Star Wars Light Saber. The Wii controller connects to the handle of the sword, and ultra bright high power LEDs illuminate a realistic looking translucent blade. The Light Sword was also designed for long periods of use, and thus is very lightweight. The Light Sword is completely motion sensitive (thanks to the Wii Remote). It comes in three colors as well, Blue Crystal, Black Knight, and Green Crystal.
I recently had an idea for a desktop wallpaper design and have finally finished it. Please note that I have nothing against Microsoft or the Xbox 360, I am simply poking fun. Both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 are great consoles and have their own fun and unique games. With this said, here is my completed wallpaper. Comments are always welcome.
Great news has come for those who own a PlayStation 3. DivX Technology – one of the most popular video formats on the earth – is officially coming to the PS3.
We PS3 users previously had to convert all of our AVI files into PS3 compatible video formats such as MPEG 3’s (which is a very time consuming process). When the update is released containing the new DivX support, we will no longer have to do this. Since AVI files compose the majority of video files downloaded on the web, we will now be able to simply transfer the files from our PC to our PS3. This update will also allow game developers to use the DivX format on their games.
The Xbox 360 has yet to release a patch that allows DivX support, although I am sure they will follow suit shortly. Until then, we can laugh as we watch our latest downloaded bootlegs on our PS3s, while those 360 owners spend hour’s transcoding theirs to the required format.
