PS3 System Update 3.40 Brings PlayStation Plus Subscription Service

PlayStation Update 3.40 has been launched and it brings with it some brand new features.

One of the most significant parts of the update is the PlayStation Plus Subscription Service. Yes, you heard me, subscription service (subscription = money). This new service can be yours for a cost of $49.99 for 1 year and 3 months. It gives you access to full game trials, early access to demos, and exclusive discounts and free games. Looks like to me Sony will be focusing on this new subscription based service from now on, buggers.

A PlayStation Network area has been added to the photo gallery that allows you to view photos from your Facebook photo albums. You can also share photos from your gallery with your friends.

Another neat feature in update 3.40 is the ability to edit video content on your PS3 and upload it to Facebook or YouTube.

Some other minor additions contained in the update include:
- Deep Color Output (HDMI) added under display settings
- Automatic Download Feature (for Plus members only)
- Ability to print and delete photos in the gallery
- Ability to see the trophy level of a friend by highlighting their name on your friends list
- 5 Star rating system for items downloaded on the PS Store
