JetBlue’s BetaBlue - Wireless Internet at 10,000 feet.

For those of you who are frequent fliers, you may want to start considering JetBlue for your next flight. JetBlue has been providing cheap air fares while maintaining high quality flight service for the last few years, with things such as its DirecTV and XM stations available at every armrest. This quality has recently been further advanced with the introduction of Wireless internet at your seat.

A lot of work went into the new JetBlue BetaBlue aircraft in order to get the wireless service to work, as snatching wireless signals while traveling over 500mph is no easy task. The signal is not completely steady as of yet, due to the downtimes when flying between signal towers (said to be around 1 minute) and still needs further advancement; however, needless to say this is still a big achievement.

You will be able to use WiFi enabled smartphones, BlackBerries, and laptops to connect to your house or office with Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Messenger, and BlackBerry messaging services. As long as you’re signed into messenger, your friends at home can track your flight path visually through Yahoo Maps, which is a really neat feature. More features will be added in the near future.

When it comes down to it, this service is far from perfect; however what other airlines can say they offer wireless internet on their flights? Best of all, it doesn’t cost you a penny (except for your ticket of course).
