For those PC gamers who do not play First Person Shooters on video game consoles because of the absence of the mouse, think again. It’s time for you to kiss those dual analog sticks goodbye; Splitfish Gameware has just released the FragFX, another unique controller for the Playstation 3. This controller breaks the SIXAXIS into two parts, replacing the right analog stick with an optical mouse, and moving the left stick to a Wii Nunchuck-like dongle.

Both parts of the controller are connected to an easily detachable lap board/mouse pad to allow for easier couch play. The button layout on the controller is very well designed, the two main buttons on the mouse have taken over R1 and R2, while the four main Playstation buttons are located on the side of the mouse, at thumbs reach. The left dongle contains the left analog stick and the D-pad. L1 and L2 shoulder buttons are located - you guessed it, on the shoulder - as well as the unique frag button (which is a button that when pressed, decreases your mouse speed in order to be more accurate with certain weapons, such as a sniper). There is also a scroll wheel on the side of the dongle that can be used to adjust mouse sensitivity on-the-fly. Just like the SIXAXIS, all buttons are analog, and the left dongle contains motion sensing abilities.

The FragFX has multiple modes that increase its functionality. It can operate as only a mouse in the Playstation Menu and in the browser. Swap Mode gives you the ability to control the left analog stick with the mouse (hence the name swap). The third mode is pMo mode, in which physical movements of the dongle can be set to replicate in game actions that would normally correspond to a button press. For example, you could set it so that when you waggle the dongle the gun-smash action is triggered in Resistance, normally being accessed by pressing triangle.
The FragFX is available in both a wired and wireless model, pricing in at 59.99 and 69.99 respectively.
For those of you FPS mouse-palming gamers who want to have the same experience on their Playstation 3, check out the FragFX.
