Apple iPod Touch

iPod Touch

For all your technology geeks out there like me, I’m sure you have seen or heard about the new iPod Touch. I’m a big iPod fan so I am going to review some of the features on the new model; hopefully this is news to some of you and you enjoy my review.

The iPod touch has the same sleek screen as the pre-existing iPhone, however it is now even thinner on the iPod Touch, measuring in at eight millimeters. The screen is a 3.5 inch widescreen display that is fully touch sensitive (hence the name). You can use your fingers to search through your favorite music albums, browse your photos and enlarge them with a simple pinch motion, or zoom in and out of a web page you are browsing.

A really neat feature of this new iPod is the Ambient Light Sensor. Basically what this does is gives your iPod the ability to sense light in your surroundings, It will adjust the brightness on your screen in order to give you the best viewing experience and also optimize your battery life.

Another revolutionary feature of this next-gen iPod is the Accelerometer. The Accelerometer is able to detect which way you are holding your iPod, and adjusts your screens display accordingly. If you are holding your iPod upright and rotate it 90 degrees, the contents of your screen will do the same, giving you a widescreen view.

The iPod Touch also has built in  WiFi, which allows you to browse your favorite website wherever you are. You can even bring up a fully functional touch sensitive QWERTY keyboard to increase and simplify your web surfing experience. You can visit your favorite website, while zooming in and out of a particular content area with a simple motion of your fingers, and you can even watch videos on YouTube.

The estimated battery life of the iPod is 22 hours while listening to music, and 5 hours while watching videos. The iPod Touch is avaiable in two models, the 8 GB and the 16GB. They will be priced at $299 and $399 USD respectively.

Overall, the iPod Touch has many new features compared to its last gen model. I cannot wait to get my hands on one of these and test it out. However, I am very dissapointed that the it comes with a wimpy 8 GB/16GB hard drive. For those of us who have thousands of songs or a bunch of videos they would want to put on this device, its not happening. I hope Apple intends to launch an iPod Touch with a bigger hard drive in the near future; until then, I’ll be rocking my sexy 4th generation iBrick.
